Hey all,

Just got an event invite from social distortion on myspace. It's for "free" airfare and hotel in Vegas, for the first 100 people to respond. I got one of these last week from another band, when you click on it it asks for a lot of info, and says in the fine print you have to sign up for platinum and gold something or other. Is this legit, and actually endorsed by the band management? Sounds pretty shady.

I wouldnt trust it. It sounds like the site has gotten hacked into. There is only 1 official Social Distortion myspace. I know the person running it would not post spam like that.
Which myspace profile was it??
Can you send me the link??

It looks like it got hacked. I would never give my info to an unknown source, especially if it came from MySpace.

Donnys always said that they had an official page on myspace, and that Shane oversees it. So my assumption was that they do.
Sorry Erika I think we both posted at the same time.

Thanks girls. The Social distortion page I am friends with is www.myspace.com/socialdistortion but I think with events you don't have to be friends? I assumed it came from there, but I guess not!

official or not, basically what you have to do to get the free trip is sign up for all these promo trials for other companies, such as a month of blockbuster online for 15 bucks. All of the trial offers are legitimate offers, but you do have to pay for them. For these contests you have to pick like 8 or 9 different trials, so when it's all over you're gonna spend a couple hundred dollars, which covers your plane fare to vegas from just about anywhere, anyways. There are marketing companies doing this with everything from concerts to electronics to downloading free computer software. I got one from AFI earlier today. This was a pretty poor call on behalf of some manager or band handler, but they probably got shanghai'd too. Or they got a free flat screen out of the ok. you never know...

Those sneaky bastards! The profile pick is gone now, but when I first received the invite I swear it had the logo pick that the "official" social d page uses. How simple to just steal the default pic and name off of a popular myspace page, make up a new page, and sent an event.

Looks pretty shady to me, it asks for your social security number and lots of other info. Although I got pretty excited.. the date of the supposed show is December 20th...which is my birthday. Oh well, hopefully they'll play some shows in California, Arizona, or Vegas after they're in Texas. I have a free airline ticket that needs to be used by the end of the year.

They want your social security number??? Thats pretty wild!
If thats the case, there is no way this has any connection to the band or their management. I'm pretty sure that they can put a stop to it (at least temporarily) and once they catch wind of it, they would probably act fast.... they dont want to be connected with shady scams.
I'm gonna bet that they wont be doing any more shows for a while after this tour is over.... but you never know what may come up and you can always wish!
